General information
While Clair Cassis was active, an album titled “Eliquexnoir” began to circulate with the VC name attached, and a sound similar, although noticeably different, to VC’s black metal material. Some people were definitely fooled by this.

The rest of the story, as told by the creator:
The new Velvet Cacoon album you all had seen was made by me, and is actually my new Black Metal album under the moniker Queen of Heathens. But why go through all the trouble to say it’s a VC album?! Simple, to show just exactly how loyal of a fan I truly am. After helping to leak Luxury Absolute as well as supply the mp3s for the Dextronaut vinyl I was beyond distraught after being heavily lied to last year about two new VC albums. What caused an issue to me was how the info was presented to “test the loyalty of the fans to Josh’s art.” If someone doesn’t think I’m dedicated, why not show them by doing the very thing Josh has done and give a community a little buzz. Furthermore, why not prove my worth in the Velvet Cacoon world by attempting to be VC? If anything, I think my loyalty is proven simply for how much debate and ire this whole experiment has caused everyone and how so many people seem to have been really happy over such a lie. Thanks for playing along ladies and gents. I apologise for any frustration or hatred i may have generated for what i did, but i think we can all agree we had a fun past couple of days wondering just what was going on. if you’d like to see and hear the album that Eliquexnoir truly is, bandcamp is where you want to go. physical release will be an option in the future too.
The title comes from a statement posted to forums as a kind of in-joke or troll of the fanbase, between Josh and Wilhelm (owner of the Starlight Temple Society and Khrysanthoney labels). This is where the “testing of loyalties” idea comes from, they wanted to see how fans would react.
Initial statement from Wilhelm:
There will be a live Velvet Cacoon album of sorts out by the end of August. It was recorded back in June for an audience of close friends at Secret Society in Portland. “Velvet Cacoon, live at Secret Society” will be a two disc set featuring songs spanning their entire career plus six new ones; four from the upcoming “Eliquexnoir” and two which were written & performed specifically for this show. Everybody was also incredibly stoned during the performance. You can anticipate just how awesome these lives tracks sound with Josh, Angela and D.Marvin improvising in the throes of forgetting their cues!
Second statement from Wilhelm, confirming the hoax:
OK, so I’ll just come clean and state for the record that this was all one big white lie. There never was a new VC album in the works, and there never will be again. Velvet Cacoon is DONE. That ship has sailed as Josh once so eloquently put it. Josh and I just wanted to gauge how the fans would react to the false news of a new album - not intending to hurt those fans, but to TEST their loyalty and appreciation for Josh’s art. So far we’re pleased with the reactions. Those who shared their passionate words of support will one day ascend with us to that great dumpster in the sky where dwells all the shady hoaxes, fake unreleased albums & general scumbaggery that is the Portland drug metal scene.
Hails & grim aves to you all. - 6th August 2011
