General information
A lo-fi folk album, this is a very slight alteration of Korouva’s “Shipwrecks & Russian Roulette” album, stolen and circulated by Josh on file-sharing platforms.

Here’s what Miranda Lehman, the person behind Korouva, said about Velvet Cacoon:
I dont actually have any big problems with Velvet Cacoon, and I wouldn’t have considered their action theft if they had created something honestly new with the music from Shipwrecks… In essence they chopped down some albums from other people, added a few things here and there and then called it their own. Ironically enough, I think they were being possessive of their creativity! I dont think they wanted to share the construction of Velvet Cacoon with anyone, not even other artists. They wanted the project to remain controlled, contained, and untainted by the outside world. Its unfortunate, because when you become too obsessed with owning the things you create, you run the risk of letting the act of possesion be your art form.
If art does exist within Velvet Cacoon I think it’s in their creation. Actually, the whole facade of Velvet Cacoon is very seductive and beautiful…I mean, in the midst of total banality, Josh created a mysterious fantasy world where the “genius artist” was no longer obsolete; it was like suddenly everyone could pretend they were living in absinthe drinking france, and that hedonism was still subversive. I think manipulating people’s longing for the past is one of the most powerful and horrible things an artist can do because the very core of that nostalgia is nonexistant. When the air of that world suddenly becomes contaminated with reality, it leaves people feeling upset, bewildered, and cheated.
I actually don’t dislike josh. He reminds me of a grandfather telling elaborate tales to his grandchildren and i feel badly that things have ended up as bitterly as they have. Josh and I interacted a while ago, but the story is dull and ridiculous so i prefer not to elaborate. Velvet Cacoon fans need only know that there has never been any connection between VC and Korouva. The first time I ever read the name Velvet Cacoon was in mid August when I learned about the stolen songs/artowork…at that point I didn’t even know that Josh was involved.
